The great thing about having a blog that not many people read, is that I'm free to post pretty much whatever is running through my mind.
Recently I've started carrying my Mp3 player on my hip as I go through my daily routines. I packed it with well over 80 hours of Psytrance, Psyambient, ambient, old school techno and hip hop, and just for a counterbalance, Marilyn Manson's complete discography. The earphones I use are simple ear buds with a hook that goes around the back of my ear and helps keep them in place better while I work. I run the cord under my shirt and with this setup, I can maintain a near continuous stream of personal music.
It has helped the day pass by much more quickly, as there isn't much significant social interaction with stay-at-home moms, or cranky people that believe it's your personal fault that their toilet/sink/faucet has started to leak.
I've also started to notice a disconnection between my body and mind that has been enhanced by the introduction of a personal soundtrack. It feels as though my body is traveling along a preset route through the present, with my soul and mind tagging along in spectator mode. A complete lack of stimulating social interaction has switched my body to autopilot and folded my mind into itself, waiting for something interesting to happen that requires more than 5% of my attention.
Right now I guess I'll just have to be content with walking through the present world, fully aware and cognizant of what's going on around me, and waiting until something stimulating forcibly pulls my consciousness from its contemplation.
